Maintaining great oral health is important - but that does not mean that it is easy! This especially true given just how scary the dentist can be for many people. In fact, there are an incredible number of people who even avoid the dentist entirely because of their fears. We are here to tell you that when you walk into our office you have nothing to worry about! At Edge Dental, we understand how overwhelming and stressful the thought of visiting the dentist can be, but we think that your oral health is too important to let slide. When you avoid the dentist, you are also avoiding treatment that could actually help make your life more comfortable. Instead, why not consider taking part in our sedation dentistry? At Edge Dental, we know that the office can be a scary place. That's why we are happy to offer sedation dentistry as an option to help you feel as comfortable as possible.
What is sedation dentistry?
Some don't just feel anxious about visiting the dentist - they feel terrified. Many individuals have a legitimate dental phobia that can prevent them from visiting a dentist at all. We want to those patients feel safe and secure in our facilities, which is why we offer sedation dentistry. A type of dentistry that uses sedation and anti-anxiety medication to help calm nerves and allow you to interact with the dentist, sedation dentistry is a great option for those individuals who have been too worried about the dentist's office to actually come and visit. We can help you feel comfortable!
Is sedation dentistry safe?
Sedation dentistry is, in fact, quite safe. We are experienced when it comes to this kind of dentistry, and we understand the best options to use for different kinds of patients. We are more than happy to speak with you in order to help determine what kind of option might be the best one to get you comfortable and feeling at ease enough to sit down with one of our dentists for an examination.
Does sedation dentistry put me to sleep?
Some of our patients wonder if sedation dentistry is something like general anesthetic and will put you to sleep entirely. The answer is "no". You will still be awake and in control of your faculties when you take our sedation medication. The goal is to put you in a relaxed state, not to knock you out. This way, you can feel calm enough to speak with our dentists and undergo an exam (if that's part of the plan) without feeling overwhelmed. You will still remember your conversations, however, and will be able to make decisions and answer questions.
Can I drive myself?
If you are coming into our offices for sedation dentistry, you cannot drive yourself. The medication is mean to induce a state of relaxation, which can be particularly dangerous when you are on the road. You might find yourself unable to pay attention to other vehicles, for example, which would be a terrible situation all around.
