If you were to get a sudden toothache that was so bad, you couldn't even drive yourself to the dentist, what would you do? Most people have never had a toothache so bad that this has even crossed their minds. However, sudden onset toothaches can cripple your ability to function.

If you were to get a really bad toothache, it is important that you get enough relief to be able to safely get somewhere to get help. Here are a few things that can help you get your tooth pain under control.

Easy Ways of Relieving Pain in Your Teeth

Consider extracts as your first line of being able to relieve pain. Many of which can be found in most modern kitchens. Turn to almond, vanilla, lemon or peppermint extract. The alcohol and the different essential oils that make up the extract can do a lot to help the pain.

Using the straight essential oil of any of these can help, too. Opt for peppermint oil if you have it, as it has been shown to decrease inflammation. Putting a dab on with a cotton swab is often enough to bring about a measure of relief.

Ginger root is also known to help reduce pain. Plus, it is really easy to get relief from. Put a small bit of peeled ginger root in your mouth and chew. Relief should come in a matter of minutes.

Saltwater is another option, as it speeds healing to most problems within the mouth. Granted, it is not going to heal a cavity, but it can speed blood to where it hurts, bringing with it, natural endorphins. Use warm water (about 8 oz.) and add about a teaspoon of salt. Swish when the pain hits, and spit.

Once you have a measure of relief on board, contact our office as quickly as possible.
