The Three Most Commonly Asked Dental Questions

Posted on 7/20/2016 by Dr. Justin Lai
An elderly woman receiving a dental examination. We get asked a lot of questions, it's part of being experts in oral health. We've decided to compile some of the most frequently asked questions we get into a blog.

Why do Regular Dental Visits Matter?

Besides brushing and flossing on a daily basis, and trying to keep your sugar intake low, regular dental visits are incredibly important to the health of your teeth.

We recommend making at least two trips to our office per year to ensure we can keep your mouth in tip top shape. During a routine visit we will do a thorough cleaning of your teeth.

During this cleaning we will use special tools to remove hard plaque and tartar that is impossible for you to remove yourself. We will also do a thorough examination of your mouth during your visits. Having X-rays taken can give us a chance to catch symptoms of issues like cavities while they are still in the preliminary stages and potentially reversible.

How can I Avoid Cavities?

The most common reason most people have to have dental work done is cavities, plain and simple. Oddly enough, cavities are arguably one of the most easily preventable dental issues there is with the proper attention. It really boils down to brushing, flossing, and rinsing after meals.

By brushing your teeth two times a day and flossing at least once a day most of the bacteria that causes tooth decay is removed from your mouth. By rinsing your mouth out with water after every meal, most of the food particles and bacteria that causes decay is washed away.

When Should I See the Dentist?

You should come to see us at least twice a year, once every six months. Besides the regular cleaning and checkups you shouldn't have to come in unless something seems wrong or becomes irritating/painful in or around your mouth.

If you notice discomfort or pain, please call us and schedule an appointment to come in and have a checkup.
